Broward County, Florida – During the 2018 General Election, over 3,300 Vote-By-Mail ballots across
Broward County were not counted because they arrived after Election Day.  Over 1,200 were not
signed as required by law and therefore, were not counted.

Today, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections is taking steps to help reduce the number of late
returns and unsigned ballots and is placing a reminder call or text to voters who have requested a
Vote-By-Mail ballot. The calls and texts will be gentle reminders to return their ballots in a
timely manner to ensure every possible vote can and will be counted.

Chief Deputy Supervisor of Elections, Mary Hall stated “We are mindful that over 4,000 votes did
not count in the 2018 General Election because they were returned after the Election Day deadline
or were unsigned.  We are calling and texting voters who requested Vote-By-Mail ballots for the
March 12 Municipal Elections to encourage them to return their signed ballots quickly so that every
eligible vote can be counted.”

Calls are scheduled to be sent to landlines at 10:00 a.m. and texts will be sent to cell phones at
10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019.
