Supervisor of Elections Kicks Off Annual High School Voter Registration Drive Next Week

Broward County, FL - The Supervisor of Elections will kick off the annual High School Voter Registration (HSVR) Drive on the week of May 15-19, 2017. The effort is presented in partnership with the Broward County Public schools and with significant participation from Broward County Private and Charter high schools. All Broward County High Schools will have the opportunity to register their students who meet the qualifications to become registered voters.

 A student workshop/training was held on April 18th, in each school’s media center to communicate voter registration policies and procedures. The video conference training streamed live to the participating schools, hosted by BECON.

Broward County Election officials are scheduled to visit over 64 local high schools next week. Election Officials will be on hand to assist the high school students and staff as they conduct their voter registration drive. The school with the most registered students will receive the coveted brass trophy, banners and certificates. Last year, Stoneman Douglas High School registered 729 new students.

High School students who are 18 years old are eligible to register to vote. Students who are 16 and 17 years of age may pre-register. The goal is to register 9,500 students this school year.

Useful Information for the March Municipal Elections

Broward County, FL. (March 7, 2017) - The following Municipalities are scheduled to have elections on Tuesday, March 14, 2017:

In order to make voting convenient, Supervisor of Elections, Dr. Brenda Snipes would like to share the following useful information with Broward voters who are planning to vote in the 2017 March Municipal Elections:

• Please contact the municipalities for the name of candidates or click on My Precinct on the SOE Home Page for a sample ballot.

• On Tuesday, March 14, voting hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for all voters living in these cities/districts who were registered (within the state of Florida) to vote by Monday, February 13, 2017.

• Florida law requires voters to present a picture ID with signature. Your Florida Driver’s License is the type of identification that poll workers can process the quickest.  If you do not have a Florida Driver’s License you may also present a Florida ID Card, US Passport, Military or Student ID, Public Assistance ID, Neighborhood association identification and Debit/Credit Card.  Please note: IDs must have current signature. Any combination of picture and signature is accepted.

Upcoming Municipal Elections in March

Broward County, Florida (February 24, 2017) –The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office would like to inform voters who live in the municipalities of Coconut Creek (District C), Deerfield Beach (Seats 3, 4, & Mayor), Hillsboro Beach (Questions Only), Lighthouse Point (Mayor), Miramar (Seats 1, 2, & 3), and Weston (Seat 3) municipal elections are scheduled to be held on March 14, 2017.

Approximately 31,341 vote by mail ballots with pre-paid return postage have been mailed out to voters in the respective six cities. Voters may request a ballot to be mailed until Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

Voters will be able to cast their votes at the polls on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  All eligible voters are encouraged to vote on Election Day.  The location of a voter’s precinct can be found on their Voter Information Card or by visiting the Elections website. 

Even though Early Voting will not be offered by the cities, eligible voters can request a vote by mail ballot by calling (954) 357-7055 or by placing a request online at: www.browardsoe.org. Anyone with questions or concerns regarding this election should contact the Main Office at (954) 357-7050.

How to Be Prepared for the November 8th General Election

Broward County, FL (November 7, 2016) - On Tuesday, November 8th, polls will open at 7:00a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for Broward County voters who were registered to vote by October 18th, 2016.  Supervisor of Elections, Dr. Brenda Snipes, would like to share the following helpful reminders on how to be prepared for Election Day:

• Florida law requires voters to present a picture ID with signature at the polling place.  Acceptable forms of ID are: Florida Driver’s License (quickest to process), Florida ID Card, US Passport, Military or Student ID, Public Assistance ID, Neighborhood Association ID, VA Healthcare ID, Concealed weapons permit ID, Government Employee ID& Debit/Credit Card.  Please note: IDs must have current signature.  Any combination of picture and signature is accepted.

·           The voter information card is not necessary in order to vote. It is a helpful tool to identify your districts, precinct, and polling location. Go to our website and click on precinct finder.  If you have moved, you are required to vote in your new home precinct.

• A voter can take a marked sample ballot or other helpful information into the polling place.  Remember that Broward’s ballot is a two page ballot (front and back). Read all sides of the ballot to ensure you see all ballot amendments and initiatives.  

• You will be asked for ID. If you do not have ID you MUST vote a provisional ballot. A provisional ballot is always counted when the voter is shown to be registered and eligible, regardless of the closeness of the outcome of the election. A person who votes provisionally simply because he or she forgot ID at the polls will not have to do anything else. If the signatures on that ballot certificate and the voter roll matches, the provisional ballot is counted.
